Benslow Music is once again happy to host Cambridge Early Music’s Baroque and Renaissance Summer Schools. The Baroque Summer School (21–28 July 2024) focuses on Campra’s L’Europe Galante and charts the power of love through France, Spain and Italy before emerging triumphant in Turkey. Each act is essentially a masque, made up of delightful dances, songs and choruses.
For the first time, the Baroque course is offered in collaboration with the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM). Cambridge Early Music’s course director is the Music Director at AAM and all instrument tutors are principals of their sections at AAM, working both as teachers and performers: Laurence Cummings as course director, voices and continuo, Bojan Čičić upper strings, Joseph Crouch lower strings, Leo Duarte woodwind and Mary Collins, baroque dance and stagecraft. For further information visit the About Tudors page.
The Renaissance Summer School (28 July–4 August 2024) will be a chance to explore the music by Pierre de la Rue, Josquin, Verdelot and the darkly rich sound-world of early sixteen-century Flanders. Pre-formed consorts of voices or viols are particularly welcome.
This week will be the perfect opportunity to spend time with like-minded musicians, and to develop your skills under the guidance of a world-class team of tutors: Clare Wilkinson as course director and voices, Nicholas Todd and Giles Underwood voices, Alison Crum and Susanna Pell viols. Clare offers a warm and personal approach, aiming at an experience as close to tailor-made as possible for participants.
Applications close on 15 March and bursary applications on 8 March. Bursaries are available.
