A Message from Peter on his planned retirement in August 2022

"I have expressed to trustees and staff colleagues the intention to retire from work in late August this year. At that point I shall have had the privilege of working at Benslow Music for some 8 years having been in full-time employment since 1974.

I am most grateful for having had the opportunity to encounter so many remarkable people here all united in their love of music and music-making. It’s been a most enjoyable period for me, and until the pandemic a relatively stable one for Benslow Music. We have an exceptional programme of courses and concerts, fantastic tutors, enthusiastic participants, a thriving Loan Scheme, a great staff team, an able trustee body and, thanks to you all, as solid a financial footing as has been possible in these uncertain times.

I’ve enjoyed my time at Benslow hugely, perhaps most of all the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people making music together and the fantastic tutor/musicians Benslow attracts. Over the last 7 or 8 yrs I feel I’ve been able to contribute positively to developing the warm and welcoming ethos of the place, to the broadening of the offer, restoring its finances, reaffirming Benslow Music’s place in the local and wider community, enabling the Loan Scheme and Trust to work more closely together, and consolidating the fabric, none of which could have been achieved without the fantastic efforts of a terrific staff team and supportive trustees.

Now it’s time for fresh approach and ideas as the organisation moves towards the centenary of the Rural Music Schools Association and thus Benslow Music in 2029. I am confident that, with your continued interest and involvement in what goes on here, the future for Benslow Music is positive. I’ll remain a Member and I hope to remain in touch with the many friends I’ve made here. Who knows, I may even join you on a course or two!"
