What is the course about?

Enigma 14 have introduced Benslow participants to a rich collection of music written for this combination, and encouraged the expansion into trying out the works arranged from the much-loved trios of the classical and romantic periods. This course creates the opportunity for enthusiasts of the flute, cello and piano repertoire to play together in a chamber setting,

Tutor website: www.lisanelsen.com

The course fee includes entry to the tutor concert on the Friday evening.

What will we cover?

Lisa Nelsen, Julian Metzger and Paul Turner will lead sessions in discovering the beauty in the pieces while suggesting ways to improve and guide methods of study in the pieces together.  Pre-formed trios are very welcome, and individual participants will form new ensembles after an introductory playing session on the first day.

What will we accomplish? By the end of this course you will be able to…

You will be guided through the art of performance and presentation during the course and have gained confidence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Standard: Confident, Skilful

How will the course be taught, and will any preparation be required?

The atmosphere during the course often becomes heightened as the ensembles focus on learning the pieces together. There will be several opportunities to play in a class situation, and explore in an open-forum setting. These will be offered in a very safe environment where experimentation and making mistakes is encouraged…if only to discover what feels  best for the ensemble. All three tutors have extensive experience in guiding all kinds of musicians through their performance apprehensions and nerves.

Will music be provided in advance of the course?

All instrumentalists are asked to learn 2-3 of the set works so that sessions can be about learning and working on the performance and presentation of the pieces. There will also be opportunities to play through unfamiliar and new works together in the afternoon sessions.
