What is the course about?

This course is about discovering the joy and genius of the Bach suites in an open lesson/masterclass format. Together we will work to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of these masterpieces.

What will we cover?

Bach suites.

What will we accomplish? By the end of this course you will be able to…

Play your chosen Bach movements with confidence in your interpretation.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You need to be at a level where you feel you could play through a movement from a suite in front of others and the willingness to explore it in an open lesson format.

How will the course be taught, and will any preparation be required?

The course will be run in a relaxed open lesson/masterclass format. Participants will be able to present one or more movements from any Bach Suite. When listening to each other you will be encouraged listen actively and respond thoughtfully to each performer.

Will music be provided in advance of the course?

No, participants are requested to bring their own music. Helpful resources: IMSLP has a wide range of parts and scores. Benslow Music members may be able to borrow music from our library.

Is there anything I need to bring?

Cello and music.
