Colourful embellishments, unusual modes, and tunes which become catchier the more you play them…In Transylvania, each village has its own, very personal tunes. In this course we will travel across, learn czardases, saporas and other dance tunes from various places, as well as rhythms and accompaniments. All tunes will be initially taught by ear, we shall use scores and charts to aid us master and remember the pieces. All pitched instruments are welcome, from intermediate to advanced level. Gundula Gruen is a classically trained violinist whose study and passion encompass Gypsy and folk music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. She learned her music mostly by ear from natives or other traditional sources. Gundula is a performer of note, as well as an enthusiastic teacher and musical director. Her book with audio CD ‘Gypsy Music Collection, 65 pieces from Eastern Europe and the Balkans’ was published by Spartan Press.
