This year, Dr Penelope Cave will address particular issues in the interpretation of a wide range of French music and its influence throughout Europe. French mannerisms, ornamentation, dance-movements and rhythmic inequality will be covered along with general harpsichord technique, in a friendly workshop situation. Please bring at least one unmeasured prelude and/or one from Couperin’s L’Art de Toucher le Clavecin; a prepared dance movement or two by Lebegue, Dieupart or Rameau; and one from a Bach suite (Partita, French or English Suite). These should all be downloadable from IMSLP the free music site. Edition HH publishes Dieupart very reasonably, and the Ut Orpheus editions of Lebegue and Couperin are also recommended.
