Lydia Dobson is a prize-winning cellist who graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2018 with a First Class Hons Degree. She was previously a student at the Purcell School, a double Junior Scholar at the Royal Academy of Music and for four years, a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Lydia is an experienced orchestral musician and soloist who has regular engagements with English National Opera, Isobel Griffiths LTD, London Sinfonietta, New London Sinfonia, Symphonica, Shure Audio and a trial with the BBC Philharmonic which commenced whilst she was still an undergrad. She has also performed and recorded with the Max Richter Ensemble and features on the Decca Albums Voices and Voices 2.

Lydia has won prizes at the Gustav Mahler International Cello Competition, the American Music Competition and the 13th Federazione Musicale Internazionale.

She has all the major concertos and sonatas in her active repertory as well as a vast amount of contemporary and unfamiliar works. Highlights have included premiering a Concerto by Paul Ibbotson, a solo recital live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune as an Introducing Artist, and performing Cello Counterpoint by Steve Reich with the Richard Lester Cello Ensemble in the presence of the composer.

Lydia plays on two French instruments from the 18th and 19th centuries by Augustin Chappuy and Georges Lotte.
