What is this course about?

All the fun and excitement of Christmas combined with expert tuition from Liz and Sarah as they bring arrangements of festive classics to Benslow. Flute warm-ups and ensemble techniques will be covered with a focus on ensemble music for all.

What will the course cover?

Flute ensemble experience, use of piccolo, alto and bass flutes, and warm-ups and flute techniques, such as intonation, tone, and articulation.

What will we accomplish? By the end of this course you will be able to...

Perform with confidence in an ensemble. 

How will the course be taught, and will any preparation be required?

In-person, some preparation would be good but not essential.

Your concert flute: plus piccolo, alto, and bass flute for those that have them. 

Tutor biographies

Elizabeth Walker Elizabeth Walker performs regularly on baroque, 8-keyed and modern flutes, primarily in orchestras based in the UK, and has given solo recitals in festivals and conventions in Holland, Toronto, Chicago and Orlando, Switzerland and throughout the UK. She is founder and director of Flutes in Tuscany www.flutesintuscany.co.uk which offers tuition, masterclasses and chamber groups to talented young flautists and adults. She is an Artist with Pearl Flute Europe. She has arranged and recorded music for flute and piano, including her highly successful 'Four Strauss songs' published at Alry Publications. She has also written two award-winning study books, 'Baroque Flute Studies' (Winner—Best Flute Method NFA 2015) and 'Baroque Studies for Modern Flute' (Winner—Best Flute Method NFA 2017), available from www.wonderfulwinds.com Elizabeth has recorded the Telemann 12 Fantasias "…if you like her sound as much as I do, you will want to listen……. over and over again". Sarah Murphy Sarah Murphy is a flautist, composer, and music facilitator based in Northern Ireland. Elizabeth and Sarah met and studied together as junior exhibitioners at the Royal College of Music and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They have enjoyed working together on a variety of musical projects ever since. Sarah has a portfolio career as an international performer, workshop facilitator, music consultant, and, increasingly, commissioned composer. As a performer, Sarah's varied career as a freelance flautist has involved playing with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and both contemporary and world music groups. As a tutor, she has a private practice in Derry, Northern Ireland, enjoys teaching people worldwide online, is the Flute tutor for the University of Ulster, and teaches annually on the Flutes in Tuscany summer course. In 2010, Sarah co-founded Wall2Wall Music, a music company that designs and delivers creative music workshops based on collaborative composition and performance. She has also worked as a Creative schools associate and delivered training for music teachers. She is a sought-after facilitator experienced at engaging people of all ages and ability levels, making them feel comfortable, and helping them achieve their goals.
