To take participants through the art of oboe reed making from tying-on gouged and shaped cane to all aspects of scraping, hopefully resulting in a reed that plays.

What is the course about?
Adrian Rowlands, Professor of Reed Making at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, returns to Benslow Music for another course devoted to the subtle, but critically important, art of reed making. This day course offers the chance for oboe players to discover the secrets of the craft and whatever your standard of playing, you can be confident that the knowledge and skills you acquire will improve your sound. The course begins at 10am and finishes at 5pm with a break for lunch. Participants are required to bring their own reed making tools (a detailed list will be made available to applicants).

The course will be conducted in group format with occasional one-to-one instruction. It is advisable to take notes and no preparation is necessary.
Will music be provided in advance of the course?
No music necessary.
