Lillie Langtry died on 12 February 1929 after a life that had been the subject of widespread public and media interest, she was a celebrity of the day. Nicknamed "The Jersey Lily", her looks and personality attracted interest and invitations from artists and society hostesses. Known for her dalliances with the aristocracy, and even royalty, as an actress she starred in many plays in the UK and the United States and was celebrated as a woman of great beauty and charm.
