To mark the death of Humphry Repton 200 years ago this year, this day course will explore the changes which brought about the 18th-century English landscape garden, examine Repton’s place in garden history, get to know him as a man, and look at his relationship with his patrons and other landscape gardeners of the 18th century. His ideas were published in several books published in his life-time, and his famous Red Books tailored to each commission ‘on the spot’ provide a wealth of material to learn about. Judy is well-known at Benslow Music where she has taught courses in historical performance for over 30 years. She is now writing a book about the English 18th-century landscape garden using ideas borrowed from musical performance.
